Duck Love

There you sit
high upon the garden wall
the sun illuminates your ruffled feathers
thick with mud and sticks, how radiant my love is
the breeze asks your permission
for safe passage as you are nestled asleep

how I long to swim
beside you so
our feet webbed as one
dancing together under the stream
barely touching the pebbles below

you are beauty itself
singing its song
you love to raise your beak, into the sky
and quack a soulful tune
you burst the clouds with your rounded song
I love you so my little duckling
